Colin McAllister and Derek Keller perform solos and duos for guitar SAN DIEGO, California -- July 27, 2004 -- Old King Cole Productions is proud to announce the release of a new CD by San Diego guitar duo, Colin McAllister and Derek Keller. The new record Solos and Duos for Guitar showcases works by both established modern masters and young emerging composers. This record encapsulates a wide variety of modern styles and transcends the typical ideas of guitar solos and duos. Starting with a rare piece by the famous American minimalist, Steve Reich, these pieces explore texture and timbres from straight-up acoustic guitar by Italian Franco Donatoni, to the extended techniques of spectralist Tristan Murail. The disc includes a composition for acoustic guitar and tape by Chris Mercer, an innovative, witty piece by Helmut Lachenmann, and an interactive work for electric guitar and computer by the duo's own Derek Keller. San Diego New Music and Old King Cole Productions will sponsor a CD release party and concert on Sunday, September 26, 2004. The concert will be held at the Athenaeum Library in La Jolla (1001 Wall Street). The show begins at 7:30pm with a pre-concert talk at 7:00pm.
