Two CDs by the violin duo of Négyesy & Nykter added to OKCD's distribution

SAN DIEGO, California -- February 28, 2015 -- Old King Cole Productions is proud to add two new CDs by the famous violin duo of János Négyesy and Päivikki Nykter to its distribution. One disc features "early music of the mid-late 20th century" by two Italian masters, Luciano Berio and Luigi Nono, that ought become standards of the literature in the future. The other disc, Dedications 2, promotes music dedicated to the duo by even more contemporary composers leaning even more into the future.

The arrangement and release of these two albums by OKCD comes on the recent passing of Mr. Négyesy, a giant figure in and champion of the experimental musical life centered at the legendary musical research facilities of the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and radiating outward throughout San Diego, California, the United States, Europe and the world. He was the first violinist to record the complete violin and piano sonatas of Charles Ives in Europe. He premiered the first two volumes of the Freeman Etudes by John Cage. He and his wife and duo partner Päivikki Nykter have recorded the complete set of all 44 Bela Bartok violin duets, an outstanding recording available on Neuma records. Both Négyesy and Nykter figure prominently in OKCD's album of the late Will Ogdon, composer and professor from UCSD.

JÁNOS NÉGYESY was born in Budapest, Hungary, and studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and later at Detmold, Germany. Between 1970 and 1974, he was concert master of the Berlin Radio Orchestra. He gave the world premiere of John Cage's Freeman Etudes in Italy, which he later recorded. He has also received acclaim for his expertise as master of the Mathews electronic violin. He passed away in December of 2014, while still actively promoting the experimental music of contemporary composers -- "with his boots on" as they say in Hungary.

PÄIVIKKI NYKTER is a native of Finland and studied at the Sibelius Academy of Music in Helsinki. She was a founding member of the Finnish contemporary ensemble AVANTI!, and occupied a principal position with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
